Project O
Recently we were at our Saturday bike club and we bumped into a very concerned looking gogo (grandmother) and her five grand children that she is now forced into raising after the untimely death of both of their parents. They had enjoyed a rather privileged lifestyle due to the relative success of the parents. But their death forced the children to move back to the rural areas and schools. This just happens to be where project O is at work.
That Saturday morning an Irish lady called Catherine just so happened to be visiting Project O. She just so happened to be carrying with her a huge desire to do something of significance for these children and possibly just an individual.
Cindy is 12 years old. The second eldest of the siblings. A conversation started between her and Catherine.
What do you want to be when you grow up? She asked.
A doctor, she replied but it will be difficult with my circumstances.
She is at present attending one of the poorest schools around. The chances of her getting an outstanding education there allowing her to fulfil her dream of getting to a top university and becoming a doctor are not slim but rather non existent.
Catherine asked me what it would take for her to realise her dream. I told her of a top school where children stroll from there upon graduation into the top universities in South Africa and trust me we have some fantastic universities here.
She asked me how much it would cost. I replied that school fees and transportation will be around R8,580 + R2,860 (SA Rand) per year. Let’s face it R11,440 rand per year is a lot of money. BUT if it allows a 12 year old girl to attend a great school and realise her dream of becoming a doctor then surely it is a small price to pay. One other thing Catherine had set in motion by stepping up and doing this. She has sent ripples of hope throughout the entire valley.
You will be a doctor!
Mark my words people will talk. Now Cindy is at HILLLCREST HIGH! Wow! Dreams do come true! Don’t give up! Keep believing. Keep hoping!
The story does’t end there. Cindy has four siblings. Why can’t we find another four incredible people like Catherine who are willing to sacrifice and radically change a life?
Why not I say!
If you would like to make a commitment and sponsor one of her siblings please email me at martin@projecto.org.za
Present annual fees for this particular school stand at R11,000 per annum. Why not step up and radically change a life?
And check out our brand new website [ www.project-o.org ]
Thanks for caring
